MEDICAL PRACTICUM

DESCRIPTION
The Manchester University Medical Practicum is an annual, three-week, off-campus class providing a short-term experience in global health in which students assist doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, and veterinarians in staffing a clinic.

GOALS   
To educate students, involve U.S. health care providers, work with local health systems, and provide health care to underserved people in a less-developed country.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS DO   
Interact with patients of all ages, see a variety of health needs, and live in a foreign culture without some luxuries often considered necessities.

HISTORY   
Beginning with Dr. Ed Miller taking a group to Mariscos, Guatemala in 1981, a total of 38 trips have taken place, the last four returning to Guatemala.
